Very easy to use, nice quality
So far, I’m quite happy with this device. It’s really important to understand that this is not a “once and done” type of hair removal system, but rather a system that you have to consistently use over a period of several weeks (up to 12 weeks, according to the included instruction book). The reason for that is because hair is not always in a growth phase, so while you may “zap” it week 1, you need to come back the next week and the week after that and so on so that you can ensure you capture it while it’s in the growth phase.I am totally new to this world of hair removal, so I was surprised when it said that you have to shave BEFORE using the device. For some reason, I didn’t expect that. They do include a razor with the device in case you don’t have one on hand. The device itself feels like it’s well made and of decent quality. It’s extremely simple to use with only one button for all functions. Between the button and the lights on the display, everything was really simple to understand and use.I was a little nervous the first time I used it because the instructions warn that you will feel a burning sensation, but that it’s totally normal. I did not feel any burning whatsoever. I tried it a few times on that same spot and felt nothing. That said, the flash felt so short and quick that I wondered if I should be doing it several more times before putting it away for the day. I decided to just follow the instructions, which stated that I could go over the same area 2-3 times. The kit also includes a set of glasses, and I do recommend using them if you are sensitive to light. I don’t know what I was expecting, but the flash did take me by surprise. For some reason, I figured with the device pressed flat against my skin, that I wouldn’t really see the light – but that’s not the case. It still flashes outward a bit and you will see it if you are looking at the device.Time will tell if it does what it says it will, but so far I’m happy with it. Nice quality, simple instructions, simple usage, and pain free. I can’t ask for much more than that!

    Neat Device!
If you’re a sci-fi geek, then you cannot look at this IPL hair removal device and not notice the similarity to the “dust buster” phaser prop in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Even the energy level setting is identical! But this is supposedly a serious hair removal tool, so I have set my sights on two areas where hair removal is a serious issue around my place: the legs of my GF and a couple of spots that I regularly “manscape.”Firstly, the packaging is top-notch, like that of a quality watch or cell phone. The power supply, device and a “makeup tool” (a.k.a. disposable razor) are included, as are a pair of fold-up safety glasses. To my delight, there is also a complete and detailed instruction book! Impressive!Yet right off the bat something made me go, “hmmm…”: in a pouch labeled “makeup tools,” there’s a typical high-end multi-blade shaver. Whaaaat? Consulting the manual, it seems that this system prevents new hair growth rather than actually removing hair. I flashed back to having to wash a dish before putting it in the dish washer, but, hey, if the hair won’t come back, I’m game. Oh, and part of the reason I wanted this unit was to tend to those areas where a razor dares not go. So… there’s that.In any case, I began with the first of 12 treatments on my GF’s left leg, the idea being that we could do a right/left comparison after just a few, so that y’all didn’t have to wait forever to see how things went. What you’re seeing here is treatment #3.Examining this unit, I have mixed feelings. I am a science geek and have built and experimented with lasers since the 1970s. I was also a photographer for a while. This device has no lasers in it at all, that I can see, but it does have a rather conspicuous flash tube, like an electronic flash for a camera. These are no joke! My earliest lasers were “pumped” using flash tubes, so they can be very powerful. And this product emits light in a specific frequency band that some medical literature claims to shut down hair follicles without damaging surrounding skin. Hmmm…After a single treatment, my GF’s left leg (the treated one) actually seemed MORE stubbly than the untreated one! Buuuut…the literature says that this can happen initially, as the follicles need to be active when treated, and after zapping the active ones, the others may become more active. One treatment later, and the treated leg seems less stubbly than the untreated one. Bottom line: it seems to be working. At this point you might be asking, “But what does it feel like”? Well, I did also use it on myself in the aforementioned areas. I also used a significantly higher power setting as my skin tone is a lot darker than my GF’s. I can report a very pleasant pulse of warmth, with no visible marks and no irritation afterward. Again, however, I have just had the 3rd of 12 treatments, and the manual suggests a few ‘follow-ups once the area is cleared.I may do an additional test on my more hearty neck/facial hair. If I do and there’s any surprises, I will update this review. Likewise if we complete the treatments and the hair returns. Thus far, though, it seems to be working as advertised. (5/23)

    Slow procces
Achieving the end result of permanent hair removal is going to take time and dedication. One almost must be very careful not to burn their skin. Even early on I noticed that if you are not really careful you could cause some serious damage to your skin. The laser gets hot and the flashes it produces are really bright even when the tool is against the skin. There is a very good reason that there are sunglasses in the box. Once you account for that you have to have a good amount of dedication and time. Achieving hair removal will require multiple treatments spread out over time and each treatment can take a while to complete. For me personally, this is probably not the best option but that is because I can’t remember to do the treatments, not because there is anything wrong with the tool.
