Life Changing
Iâve always been a giver of everything I have. I put my soul in everything and everyone. I knew I needed to care for myself more. This book helped me make connections that I needed. It is helping me make corrections and respect me as Godâs daughter, beyond just being His servant for others.

An easily accessible and culturally transformative resource
This book is very practical and takes the reader (listener) step-by-step in improving one’s life by (re)focusing on simple, daily, spiritually-integrated practices to improve one’s self care. The author’s expertise and experience show through making this the ideal resource for individuals, couples, groups and leadership teams. She has outdone herself and the reader who presents is clear, consistent and easy to listen to. I highly recommend and have already used this in my own life and helped others receive the change that they have needed.

An invitation to care for ourselves as the beloved children of God that we are
I am not one for âself care,â because it is often presented as materialistic or an escape from real life. Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes does an excellent job showing how to care for ourselves in practical, everyday ways. Her insights and prompts helped me appreciate that caring for myself honors God, brings me closer to God, and makes me better able to be in community in healthy, life-giving ways. The more I care for myself, the more I can be an example and support to others in doing the same. My small group read this book and everyone got different things out of it but the consensus was it is among each personâs favorite books weâve read (and weâve read a lot!). Now the challenge is to continue putting into practice some of the new things that emerged while reading the book, because sacred self-care is an ongoing, never-ending journey.

Counselor Educator as a person; Counselor Educator as a Professional
It is my belief that we cannot ask our students, clients, or congregants to do something if we are not willing to do it ourselves (or at least try to do it)! When searching for required books for my upcoming course, Pastoral Self-Care as part of the Women in Ministry Leadership concentration, my colleague recommended Sacred Self-Care. Once I submitted my book list, I decided to engage in the 49-Day Sacred Self-Care journey specifically for myself. This book has been a blessing to me, reminding me that self-care is not only self love but also self care is an act of resistance. I am changing my already existing wellness program with the incorporation of this book. I highly recommend for your personal development as well as the developing of those you help!

Slow Down You Move Too Fast
I highly recommend this book to all clergy and lay people caught up in enervating cycles of service rather than caught up in the enlivening cycle of love

This is a necessary book
Dr. Walker Barnes is a walking, living embodiment of the grace of being human. I love gifted authors that share their struggles while maintaining a standard. They share their growth processes with us.This book is profound. It is gentle. It is nuanced. It is straightforward. It is a work of effective beauty. I use this as a daily devotion and when I get to the end of the 7 weeks, I will turn around and start again. Thank you for sharing your gift of pastoral care, psychological insight, personal endeavor and theology with us.
